A few months ago I joined in on a group purchase of parts for the TXBPF. This is a multi band band pass filter with manual and automatic selection. Of course to make this work, you have to build it. I would not call this a begginers project as there is surface mount components to solder and 24 torroids to wind. Then there is the tuning.
